Check out "Willow on State Street"

Decided to take a little stroll down to a small vinatge store/art gallery that opened recently in Kennett Square. If you have any interest in jewelry, photography, art, vinatge books, or vintage records (their collection is pretty impressive) you should check it out! I scored this vinatge book about Poland (yes, I am Polish) and this vintage Gershwin record. Ever since I got hooked on Woody Allen movies I am a fan of Gershwin. After all, Rhapsody in Blue is said to be the theme of New York.

Me Myself & Irene

Well it seems that everyone has gone into full on panic  because of Irene. This type of panic is usually reserved for the forecast of snow. The school district where I am employed has already cancelled for Monday leaving me more time to be prepared. We were forced to leave our classrooms today as Delaware declared a “State of Emergency” and evacuated its government buildings (school employees in Delaware are also government employees).

Despite all my stress from the coming school year I have found some time to blog. I really did love this outfit that I wore today which earned many a compliment. I hope everyone has a safe weekend.

My Photo That Was Featured on Meets Obsession

I am a writer for http://meetsobsession.com. It is a fashion and culture based website. They recently asked all of their writers to send in pictures of themselves with their newly released print version of their magazine. I was the second to be featured. Click here to see the image. I encourage you to buy a copy of the magazine. It is not a very common thing for a print magazine to be born in this day in age as many are dying.

Lagerfeld Confidential

So yesterday I decided to watch the movie Lagerfeld Confidential. While watching the movie I realized that I had never seen Kaiser Karl (the head desinger for Chanel for those of you who don't know) without his sunglasses. During one memorable scene in the movie, he becomes upset when cameras are filming him sans sunnies. This made me go and google the phrase "Karl Lagerfeld without sunglasses" I was quite surprised to see how he really looks, I personally think he is cute as a button. You can read more about his upcoming collection for Macy's here, in a piece I did for Meets Obsession.

The 2011 September Issues!

Ah, it is that time of year! When the yearly fashion bibles begin making their debuts. I have already purchased two of them. (It is the only time of year that I will buy a large amount of magazines at once.) I receive Lucky, Vogue, Runway, Elle, and Allure in the mail. Most of them I purchased with a teacher discount for next to nothing. I scored a yearly subscription to Elle and Allure for $5.00.

So far the covers look impressive. I purchased Marie Claire and Harper's Bazaar today as they are not part of my subscriptions. Sarah Jessica Parker is on the cover of Marie Claire. This made me all the more eager to buy it as she will always be a style icon in my heart. Lea Michele is on thr cover of Harper's Bazaar... she looks pretty but I cannot say that I know anything about her as I am not a Glee fan. Jessica Alba is on the cover of Lucky looking beautiful as usual. I am very excited to read editor in chief Brandon Holley's first September issue since taking over the reigns at the magazine. She is a true innovator and the brains behind to of my favorite past magazines, Ellegirl and Jane.

It seems that Kate Moss has been chosen to cover Vogue, which would be amazing. I am waiting for my Elle to arrive but from what I have seen in stores, Gwyneth is on the cover looking elegant. Now if only I had the time to sit down and read them...

Two coins united

For those of you who do not know, my mother passed away in May of 2009 from ovarian cancer. She was my best friend and I miss her every minute of every day. One of her most prized possessions was a coin pendant. The coin was made from a silver bar that was recovered from a shipwreck. The ship’s name was the Atocha. The Atocha was a Spanish galleon that sank near the Florida keys in 1622.

I wear my mother’s pendant often and had been thinking about getting one to match for a while now. This past weekend I was in Ocean City, Maryland and made a trip to the store where she purchased her coin. They had about seven of them and got to speak to one of the men who dives at the sight of the wreck. He told me that in a few years the silver bars will be gone, so I felt that I should get one before it would become an eternal regret.

The coin I purchased was $90. I am not sure what my mom paid for her coin, but I couldn’t really put a price on the sentimental value it holds. Below you can see the two of them together. My mother was a lover of the sea and all things nautical (lighthouses, seahorses, sailboats). I dedicate this post to her and all our happy memories spent in Ocean City, Maryland.
The coin on the left is mine. The one on the right was my mother’s.

Castle Chic!

Last night I took my men out to  Stokesay Castle near Reading, Pennsylvania. My men being my dad (it was an early birthday dinner for him) as well as my boyfriend Michael. We had an awesome time. The food was awesome and the service was some of the best I ever had. There was a dress code which is always music to my ears. Just a picture below of my dad and I and the castle itself.

I will always love purple…

Today was my two and a half year anniversary with my boyfriend Michael. I was awoken by beautiful roses. Purple and red to be exact. The purple ones are especially pretty. Just a little inspiration for the fall.

IMG_1297Pretty great guy, eh?

While looking through the August issue of Vogue today I noticed model Lara Stone in an amazing fox fur Gucci jacket. Of course the editorial was styled by none other than Grace Coddington, who in my mind is the god of all stylists.

On a recent trip to the Goodwill I snagged this vintage jacket for $7. It was an amazing find. I am tempted to put it in my store but I think this one may be in my closet for good.

IMG_1303IMG_1304 IMG_1305IMG_1306 It says Sevilla, maybe this is actually from Spain?

Now the jacket is dry clean only and I cannot stress enough to you the importance of abiding by that rule with vintage clothing. A piece like this was made in a different time meaning the dye could be more prone to run. Think of it this way… if you get an amazing jacket like this for $7, a $7-10 dry cleaning charge isn’t so bad in order to maintain the piece and kill any possible things that could be lurking in the clothing.

A better look at what is for sale in my on-line store

While I do love Big Cartel (e-marketplace), they do not give many options to the people who use their basic plan that is free. I only get one image view per item and it has to be 1mb, which is tiny. I wanted to post my current items for sale so that you can get a better idea of the detail of each item. http://otherpeoplestrash.bigcartel.com

blue and gold necklace

This necklace is really pretty and has awesome flecks of blue and gold.

Love this hankie.

robert rose

This bracelet is very detailed and has a lot of character.

This is a size 6 but I have a 32 bust and it fits me really nice. You would need to be about a 36 bust to really make this a tighter shirt. A shirt like this is not really meant to be worn too tight but rather loose.

New items in my on-line store!

Added some new items to my on-line store at Big Cartel. If you have questions please let me know.

Waiting for the rainy season!

So for many years now I have been buying cheapy rain boots to muck around in, especially while I was in college. After many pairs that cracked open on the bottom, I have decided to splurge a little and get boots that will last me for than a year. I also have moved on past the whole printed rain boot phase. For those of you who know me well, you know that at one point I was obsessed with animal prints. While I still love leopard, I am over plastering it all over myself. Go with a neutral for a rain boot.

I was really torn over what brand rain boot to get. Originally I wanted a pair of Hunter's but decided that I would get what I call "Ugg regret" from buying these. This type of regret comes from spending a great amount of money on something only to feel that you look like everyone else. In the end I passed up the Hunter's, especially after hearing from the mother of a girl that I tutor that they are all the rage among high schoolers. PASS. I teach high schoolers and would rather not blend in as much as possible.

After browsing various shoe sites I stumbled upon Shoebuy.com, With free shipping both ways, much like Zappos, I ended up getting 15% off my boots, spending a total of $100.26. While this may seem like a lot for rain boots, I figure that I must have spent around $70 over the past few years on cheapy boots that only break in the end. The boots are Calvin Klein and are OVER THE KNEE. How cool is that?

The Fashion Within Woody Allen Films

Lately I have been watching just about every Woody Allen movie that is available on Netflix Instant. The fashion within the films is very memorable. Two of my favorites are Annie Hall and Manhattan Murder Mystery. While the female characters take the cake for their style, Woody Allen's characters had their moments as well.

Diane Keaton in Annie Hall

No one ever pulled off the menswear look quite like Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. With the tie and vest she gave a masucline edge to a crisp blouse and khakis. Also note Woody Allen's all-white ensemble. Perfection.

Angelica Huston in Manhattan Murder Mystery

There was little color in Angelica Huston's wardobe in Manhattan Murder Mystery. With her dark hair and brooding eyes, she pulled off the sleak and chic look of a New Yorker.
