Other People's Trash Review: Style Outside the Box

There is nothing I love more than a local fashion start up. When you live outside of a city it is generally rare to find one thriving. This, however, is not the case in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. My grandmother spent most of her adult years in Millersville, outside of Lancaster city, so I have a pretty good idea as to what life is like there. It is a beautiful area with kind people but one rarely thinks of a fashion hotspot when Lancaster comes to mind.

Thanks to Laura Adamson, the CEO of Style Outside the Box, Lancaster is now home to a fashion site where one can purchase unique items from independent designers. Each piece is one of a kind making your shopping experience a special one. Below I will review some of the items you can find on their site.

This first item prompts me to say that one can never have enough stationery. In today's world of emails and texts, it is nice to get a written letter. Make this a fun task for yourself by using creative greeting cards such as this one, complete with the leaning tower of Pisa.

If you are like me, you probably read a lot of magazines each year, especially during the spring and fall collections. For those of you who recycle you magazines, pat yourself on the back and pick up one of these picture frames made from recycled magazines. Your home can look good and you can feel good about this purchase.

While the following bags are categorized as "men's bags and luggage" I have to admit that I love them all. Many have the utilitarian look that is both chic and durable. This navy and black tote is my favorite.

As fall is arriving soon enough my thoughts have turned to coats and boots. Warm enough for a chilly morning yet not overwhelming this black trench provides you with coverage that is practical yet unique.

This watercolor print is a truly personal one. It is personal for me because the sample date is my birthday. This can also be personal for you as the date can be made into any of your choosing with your own choice of flowers. This is a great way to forever save a date.

Whatever your personal or gift needs may be, take a look at Style Outside the Box, where independent designers and luxury meet. You won't be disappointed.

The Perfect Weekend Look

Relax! It's the weekend. That means your clothes should relax too. Bring on the bright colors and fun prints because you have 48 hours to shop, discover, eat, drink, and be merry. What do I love about the outfit below? Well, first off, every piece is under $50. You can't beat that!

I also love the mixture of colors. Orange and blue are complementary colors therefore the pairing in thought may not work but it is visually pleasing to eye. Green adds an extra pop. Leopard in my opinion is the new neutral. Equal parts tan and black, it can be worn with pretty much anything. Wearing flats when participating in weekend activities is always a good call, your feet will thank you.

Add some sunglasses and a colorful bag and you are good to go.

Best places to "style watch" on the weekends:
1. Brunch hotspots
2. Flea markets or thrift stores
3. Parks
4. Concerts
5. Street fairs

What are your weekend staples?

Pantone Colors: Fall 2012

Are you sick of this heat like me? I am sure you are. I get absolutely giddy when I walk into a store and see flip flops being replaced by boots. Do I hate summer? No, I love it. But when the summers are growing increasingly warmer it is hard to "have fun in the sun" without my face melting off (thank you Smashbox primer). So as we get into mid-August I am ready to trade in my tank tops for cardigans and my sandals for some knee-high boots.

Many people often ask me if they can wear their summer clothes in the winter. My response is usually yes. I do it all the time. If you take a peek below you will see that a lot of fall's colors are actually rather bright.

That Labor Day law has been abolished, my friends. No need to fear chartreuse or tangerine for the fall. When you get to thinking about it, most "fashion laws" are becoming obsolete.

I was recently in NYC for the Circuit Accessorie show and saw a multitude of people committing what the general public would consider crimes of fashion. Carry on I say, as they were wearing what made sense to them and not what makes sense to everyone else.

So this fall throw on some Bright Chartreuse pants with a Tangerine Tango top and accessorize with a Pink Flambé clutch. I dare you.
